John de Lancie is a versatile character actor, who has made many TV appearances since he began regularly appearing on American television in the mid-1970s. He has contributed to a wide range of television series, ranging from real-life dramas like Emergency! and spy series such as the 1980s version of Mission: Impossible to science fiction classics like the original Battlestar Galactica.

He is probably best known in science-fiction circles for the character "Q", seen on various Star Trek television series. However, he has made similarly distinctive contributions to Charmed and Stargate SG-1. He has also done voice work for a number of series, including My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; he was involved in the production of a documentary about that series' fandom.

His work on The Six Million Dollar Man was some of the very earliest of his career, coming just a year after he had landed his first role in the German film/US telemovie, Legacy.
