Bigfoot, perhaps more properly known as Sasquatch, is a legendary man-like creature believed to live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and the Canadian province of British Columbia. In the world of Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers, it is discovered that Bigfoot is really an alien android created by a group of aliens visiting earth; he was constructed by the alien Shalon in imitation of a lower form of life from the alien homeworld, using a technology called "Niosynthenics", an advanced form of Bionics which were powered by Mergeron. His main purpose, initially, was to create a cult of mystery and fear in a remote part of the Pacific Northwest in order to protect the location and identity of his masters' earth base. Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers encountered Bigfoot, who was left behind on earth when his masters returned home, on several occasions; although occasionally troublesome, Bigfoot befriended both Austin and Sommers, so much so that in "Bigfoot V", the character's final appearance, Austin comes to the creature's rescue.

[edit] Behind the scenes
Bigfoot was played by two different actors, well known for their extraordinary height. André the Giant originated the role in the initial two-parter, but Ted Cassidy played the character in all subsequent appearances.
[edit] Deconstructed
The character is somewhat of a lightning rod amongst observers of the Bionic franchise. On the one hand, Bigfoot was an extremely popular character, and one of only three televised villains to receive his own action figure. (Fembots were also so honored.) On the other hand, the character currently outpaces all other competitors — by a wide margin — for the reason why The Six Million Dollar Man "jumped the shark"[1].
[edit] Later reference
A scene from "The Secret of Bigfoot" was recreated for the 2004 telefilm Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Charlie's Angels', with Ben Browder playing Lee Majors (playing Austin) and John DeSantis as Bigfoot. Although the episode shown coincides with the one that featured Andre the Giant, the credits for the film list DeSantis only as Bigfoot, not the wrestler. Like Ted Cassidy before him, DeSantis is also best known for playing the character of Lurch, in The New Addams Family, a series produced in the late 1990s.
